Fire Safety

The SCCA Clinic Building is equipped with fire detection, suppression, and alarm systems aimed at the prevention and containment of fires.

In the event of a fire alarm activation, the fire alarm will sound on the floor of origin, the floor above origin and the floor below. In addition, the SCCA Security/Fire Control Officer will make a "CODE RED" announcement identifying the location of the alarm. Staff is expected to initiate their floor specific fire plan.

The SCCA Fire Plan consists of the R-A-C-E acronym:

  • Rescue those in immediate danger.
  • Sound Alarm.
  • Contain fire by closing all doors and windows.
  • Evacuate or Extinguish as directed.

To report a fire, activate the nearest fire alarm pull station or dial 911. Follow these actions up with a call to 206.288.1111, Security/Fire Control Officer.

When evacuating the building use the nearest available exit and report to the designated assembly area.

  • If using the North stairwell proceed across Aloha to the Fred Hutch parking area.
  • If using the South stairwell proceed away from the Shipping/Receiving area to the cul-de-sac at the end of Valley St.
  • If using the West stairwell proceed across Aloha to the Fred Hutch parking area.

To Operate a Fire Extinguisher - If safe to fight a fire, use an extinguisher and remember the PASS acronym:

  • Pull the Safety Pin
  • Aim at the Base of the Fire
  • Squeeze Handle
  • Sweep, Side to Side
